Turku Music Centre project plan approved by the City Council

The project plan for the Turku Music Centre was approved by the Turku City Council on 14 November 2022. The project can now move ahead to the construction document and building permit phase, with construction expected to begin in autumn 2023. The aim is for the Music Centre to open in early 2026.

The Turku Music Centre is set to be a versatile, exciting cultural venue on the Aura River, providing world-class acoustics in a 1,300-seat concert hall and a smaller multifunctional space for a wide range of events. The Council also approved the proposed expansion of the plan to include a green rooftop terrace with restaurant, offering a magnificent view over the Aura River and its vibrant urban shoreline. This public space will greatly enhance the use of the building by city residents and visitors throughout the day.

At the same time, the City announced a name competition to choose a unique name for the building. The public can vote for their favourite from among four options: Turku Music Centre Aura, Fuuga, Harmonia or Sointu at https://www.turku.fi/uutinen/2022-11-15_aanesta-turun-musiikkitalon-nimea.

The Music Centre plan is based on PES-Architects’ winning competition proposal together with the Harmonia group, now part of the alliance project team including the City of Turku, Hartela Länsi-Suomi Oy, PES-Architects, WSP Finland Oy, and Laidun-design as subcontractor.
